i have towed many alpines with the driveshaft disconnected and they leak oil
out of the tail shaft...especially when going up hill or over rough terrain.
Several times recently when towing an alpine with the driveshaft
disconnected i disconnected it from the diff and tied it up and forward with
a coat hanger. That was from Stagecoach Nev to San Diego...no problems ...no
mess.
