Ask to see the third member prior to re-assembly.
A proper repair house will use a colored grease to verify the proper
tooth engagement on the ring and pinion.
Shadetree mechanics may not know how, or even take the time
to set up a ring and pinion.
Its not rocket science, but it does need to be done to verify that
the ring to pinion clearances are shimmed right.
The two sets of shims set the R/P gear mesh in two axis'.
If the rear is shimmed right, and it still makes noise, its not his fault.
