Hey Chris,

For a number of years our British Car Club has taken part in the NMSU
Homecoming parade each October. For years the club members were plagued
by overheating engines...

Then some club member got a real brainstorm and talked to the University
parade committee who agreed to reverse the route so the parade would run
downhill. Presto-chango! Happier marching bands and, more importantly,
no more overheating cars! Well, not quite "no more" as my '36 Morgan
Three-Wheeler (no water pump, no fan, no temp guage) could still not
handle the slow pace and started giving me a coolant shower so I had to
motion to a spectator to pull aside a barrier and I headed up a side
street where the car cooled as soon as I got it up to about 35 MPH.

In last year's parade I just shut my Tiger's engine down and coasted
pretty much the whole parade, restarting at the end of the parade to
head for the dispersal area.

So, that's the secret: run your parades downhill!

If your town does not have a hill, ask yourself, "Where do you reckon
they might like one?" and get started!

Cheers!
