Problem Located?

Hello Alpine Gang:
I installed a new alternator control box (regulator) this morning and
the alternator still is not charging. Next, I went through all the tests
for the components (relay...grounds, etc.) and everything there seems
OK. (Watch out when you follow the instructions for changing the wires
to test the alternator relay....I didn't disconnect the battery at first
and got a very nasty shock and burn and blister on my finger hooking up
the wires. I consider myself having been officially warned by Lord
Rootes to never play with Lucas electrics with the battery hooked up!)

Sooo, as far as I can figure, the alternator is bad. It briefly showed a
charge for a minute or less and then reverted back to discharge only
during my messing about with things, a coincidence I think.

Since I bought this fine Lucas alternator from Victoria British less
than a year ago (by the way, it did not wire as a stock Lucas Alpine
alternator and quite a bit of messing about was required at the time to
get it to work), maybe I should switch to a GM or other US alternator. I
know some of you have done this. What's involved?

Thanks
Steve Sage
