Perhaps Ive been misunderstood.
I have run weber side drafts and mikuni side drafts on the 1725 alpine.
Ive run them on stock and modified engines.
The linkage issues were expected, and IMO were easily completed.
Webers are wonderfull peices of machinery, and this should not
deter you from procuring a setup, provided it fits.
The problem that we had on the TWM side draft manifolds was that the ports
didnt line up with the bolt holes. My solution was to move the mounting
holes
upward so that the ports allign with those in the head. I was left with a
very
small area for the two side nuts to press down unto. I also had to grind
away
various places on the manifold to prevent it from interfering with the
exhaust manifold.
Lastly, it was impossible to put the two side nuts on the manifold.
I had to hog away more clearance for the nut, and I had to fabricate
a 7/16 nut from a 1/2 brass nut to gain enough clearance for a box end
wrench for tightening.
Overall it was not a very good copy of the hartwell manifold that was
supplied.
The only good thing that I can say about it was that the casting was a very
good quality, as was the machining. Unfortunately it didnt look quite so
nice after the "mods" were performed.
TWM was informed of the problems, and the last I heard hadnt even responded
the ANY of the complaints. If they have "fixed" the problem, then thats
news
to me, but what about those of us who paid top dollar for these manifolds
to be produced?
Anyhow my original bitch list with specific issues was posted a few years
back,
and should show in the archives.
