Just to clarify, before I changed the wire to #4 the ammeter would
always show a negative charge condition. Anywhere from -10 down to -35.

I am assuming that a continuous output of 35amps would be too much.
According to Smitty I have the 11A (as opposed to 10A) alternator,
which is rated at 45amps output.
