I think Rick at Sunbeam specialties has new ones of these. Check it out. I
had a simular problem and found through a friend that the spring that snaps
the trunk lock had one half of it broken so there was not enough tension on
the lock pawl. Once I replaced the unit with a used one it worked super and
it has never popped open again. Worth checking it out.
