The blower switch on early cars had the blower switch as part of the heater
controls, the slide to control the amount of heat pulls out to turn on the
blower, or at least should do. It is the control on the far left (bearing
in mind I am in England and sit on the right). This didn't work on my SII
when I got it and a switch had been retro fitted where the optional
cigarette lighter should be.
This switch was out of period with the car so I decided to change it back
to original, but this is not a job for the faint hearted or short tempered.
After many hours spent upside down under the dash I ended up having to
remove the dash and bring the heater control to our electricians at work
who did a great job and it now works again.
I think the combined switch was a nice idea but most Alpines that I have
seen have some sort of alternative installed as the blower switch has long
since packed up.
I got a period cigarette lighter from a local scrap yard and fitted this
into the correct hole, even though I don't smoke, it is far better then a
large black hole in the dash.
I still have one other switch on the dash which is non original which is
the horn. I have a replacement walnut steering wheel which does not have a
centre push so there is a long stalk switch next to the windscreen washer
push/pump. Could this be the mystery switch on Kelly's Babette?
