Just subscribed, someone from over on the triumph lists thought that you all
could give me a hand on a recent acquisition of a 1956 hillman minx. someone
over there (there we go again with the over there) said that it shares parts
with a sunbeam alpine/rapier/tiger...but wasnt' sure which one, this is the
first thing i need, as i cannot find catalogs specific to the hillman, but they
have em for the sunbeam's if the parts are the same between them i need to
know..or if something can be made to fit and work with a little persuasion then
that's good too...
now on to what i do know about the car, it's a 1956 hillman minx, started out
life black, has some surface rust but the sills and rocker panels look pretty
good..doors shut and the bonnet is straight...interior is shot, carpets, seats,
anything made of rubber (as far as i could tell in the waning light last night)
needs to be replaced...coaxed the motor into running for a bit on a little
fresh gas and no filter. smokes some so probably need a valve job or rebuild,
no big deal if i can get parts. tires are shot, whitewall with the tubes, but
if it's rubber it's being replace anyway. dont' know if the gauges work, never
really paid attention to it...forgot to track down the commision number.
the only other begging question is if a no lead head is available for it, i
think one or more valves are toast and need to be replaced, can hardened seats
be put into the current head and made to work or should i replace the head with
a no lead variety.
well enough rambling, as things progress im sure i will have more questions
than answers, but that should change with time.
tia
