Many iron head engines didnt use valve seats.
It reduced manufacturing costs, and so long as the
valves were soft, the valve landing area would sufficiently
work harden itself not to erode quickly.

Put a no lead valve in the iron head, and it will recess
very fast.

I suppose you could get a machinist to machine away a pocket for
a custom seat, but by the time you are done with that kind of
machining, you are better off converting the whole hillman engine
to use an alpine/rapier aluminum head.

This is what I recommend anyhow due to parts availability,
and the very low output of the 1390/1494cc hillman engine.
