Jay,
From what I have seen on good original cars, the hammer was a Thor with
two copper ends. I have seen some pictures of them with one copper end
and one raw hide end. Could be that they used what ever they had
available at the time??? Both of my Harringtons came with Thor hammers
with two copper ends. Both cars came to me complete with original tools.
The Le Mans from thew original owner. So, I'm sure that they are the
hammers that came with the cars.
Off the top of my head, I can't remember exactly where they mounted the
hammer on the Series 3's and 4's. I do know that it was mounted on the
left hand side of the Series 1's and 2's trunk. The clips were the same
as the ones that held the jack. Jan has a Series 4 GT parts car right
now that came with wire wheels. All of the trunk parts were stripped
from the car when he got it, but perhaps I can figure out where it went.
I believe he has all the clips in a box. I am also restoring a Series 3
GT that originally had wires, but now has minilites. I haven't gotten
to the trunk yet, but again, I might be able to see where the correct
holes are for the hammer mounts. - Ian
