Tom,
Copper tubing work hardens with vibration.
One of the fastest ways to cause a gasoline fire in an automobile is to use
copper tubing for fuel lines.
Three years back, I replaced a copper tube a prior owner had installed on
a series 5 Alpine: the tube fractured on Interstate 5 and the driver drove 15
miles on 14 gallons of fuel spraying on the exhaust manifold. Fortunately,
she ran out of fuel and it didn't ignite. Later she said she smelled
gasoline! She is one of the luckiest people I know.
