The material you refer to is self-adhesive, self curing butyl rubber, and
the product name is DecksDamp. One side has waxed paper that is removed like
a bumpersticker, and the other has aluminum foil to maintain the shape of the
sheet. It is used in the Marine industry to dampen the noise from diesel
engines in fishing boats/cabin cruisers, etc. I have used it in my Diesel
Ford van and the reduction in noise level (vibration and echo) is amazing.
At least 10 owners in PTC have used these waterproof sheets inside their
doors and behind their gas tanks. It will change the sound of your drivers
door closing from clang to thump.
