Hi Rob,

Lead acid batteries like to be fully charged. Partial charge will shorten
the life of the battery, and I don't think partial discharging and them
charging helps anything. You can keep the battery topped off by trickle
charging it every couple of weeks, depending on what temperature you store
the battery. Be careful when charging, because chargers tend to make
batteries release some acid from its vents. This can rot your battery box.
Also keep the batteries from freezing. If the car is stored outside, put
the battery somewhere that won't freeze. If the battery stays in the car, I
would disconnect the ground strap to keep from uneccesary discharge.

Hope this helps.

on a charger occasionally if it is not being used regularly but should I
do anything to discharge it before charging it? Should I turn the
headlights on for a half hour to give it a "workout"?
