The Thermostat was installed when the engine was rebuilt four years ago by
the rebuilder. I'll check for flatness when I remove it. Thanks for all the
tips everybody!

<Take the time to pull the pulley and work carefully on the thermostat
housing. It tends to seize up on the mounting studs, and it breaks easily.
It also can bend ot fairly easily. Did you check to make sure it was
'flat'
before you installed it last time?>
