Weber carbs on SII

After a reasonably successful season rallying my Alpine I am looking for
ways of improving performance without turning it into an 'Alger' as this
would not pass the regulations. Handling is excellent but I lose out on
acceleration to more powerful cars.

I already run the larger 1725 cc engine on the original Zenith Carbs. I am
looking into fitting a pair of Weber carburettors as a replacement but have
only seen this done on Series V and the diagonal bracing strut under the
bonnet had to be modified to allow the carbs to fit and even then the air
filter was squashed against the inner wing.

I made some rough measurements that the distance from the manifold to the
end of the ram pipes was 24cm for the Weber Carbs and measuring under the
bonnet suggested I wouldn't have a similar problem. Is the under bonnet
area the same in all models or are the diagonal bracings different? Has
anyone fitted Webers on a Series II ?

Also how is the throttle linkage attached to the existing arrangement?
Any photographs / drawings would be much appreciated
