RE: CD 150s

Talk about timing, I just came back in after replacing the gasket and
finding that the upper corner did not seal. I was wondering how anyone
could have made an error like this. I replaced it with the correct gasket
from Rick at SS which fit perfectly, another reason to buy from guys who
know Alpines and not just lbc's. My theory was that whenever I made a hard
right turn that gas would slosh out of the bowl and volatilize making a
nasty unburnt gas smell in the cabin.

Unfortunately, this does not seem to have been a complete fix. By driving
in circle I can still get the smell, although not as strong, and by jumping
out I was able to catch some moisture on the bottom of the rear bowl (that
had just been cleaned before replacing) before it volatilized. Another
interesting thing, I only had time to replace the one gasket and the front
carb appears to have the same incorrect gasket and has never leaked as far
as I can tell.

I am now wondering about the O-ring that goes around the jet adjuster. I
did not replace it, and the moisture I found was on the bottom of the bowl
and not on the sides near the new gasket. Questions: Why just the rear
carb? Should I go back in and replace the O-ring as well? Any other likely
sources?

Another thing I noticed, it appears my linkage between the carbs is getting
sloppy and I notice the front carb seems to get a slightly visible head
start when the accelerator is applied. I seem to remember a discussion of
this a while back, can anyone remember what the consensus was about
replacement, fixes, alternations?

A good thing to look for.

Some rebuild kits out there are actually meant for the 150CDSE, which has a
slightly differently shaped bowl. Applied to the 150CD, one corner will
not
seal.

<< This was a problem on carbs I rebuilt for a friend. It also leaked gas at
the carbs......seems that the level of the gas is at a higher point than
the bowl seem/gasket. This may be due to the fact that the carbs are at an
inclined position. You might take a look at the bowl gasket. I remember
that it will fit in two positions......both of which match the body of the
carb but only one will match the outline of the bowl. I suggest matchiung
the gasket to the bowl first before intstallation.
