Overdrive Questions

Hello Alpines, and Terry McKitrick & Gary Strom:
Thanks for the tips so far. Gary's explanation of what the weight
ratings of oil mean (i.e. 20-50) was very interesting. Seems to imply
that when my 20-50 is cold, and at 20 weight, the thinner status of the
oil allows better shifting than when it heats up and assumes its 50
weight character, when it becomes even harder to shift into 1st & 2nd.
If that's the case, it's back to the 30 weight for me, or I wonder if a
straight 20 weight would be the ticket. Of course, this may increase
wear on the trans. and overdrive. Has anyone tried this?

Terry's suggestion to lube the shifter is so simple and obvious that of
course I have not tried it yet! I will attend to this for sure tommorow
and report back to the list to see what happens.
