On my SV, the grill is stainless steel, I'm assuming that it's the same
on early series Alpines. SS cannot be chromed, it must be sanded and
polished. You can take them to most any chrome shop to be polished,
I'd imagine it won't cost more than $80 or less. I did mine myself
with a flexible rubber sanding wheel sold by Eastwood and a buffing
wheel. I started with 220 on the sander, up to 320; I then sanded by
hand with 400 & 600. Then I buffed using emery, rouge and stainless
steel polish. I finished it off with white rouge. I did both my grill
and my windshield trim. Everything turned out very nice, not brilliant
(didn't want that), but no more pitting or dullness.
