Off topic - powder coating

I will be fabricating some mounting bases for a custom roof rack for my
daily driver and need to determine what type of metal is compatible with
powered coating - Does it matter? Stainless? Aluminum? Mild steel? Where
capped off square tubing will be used should a vent hole be
incorporated? Also, has anyone tried one of the advertised powder
coating kits for the DIYer? Thx.
