toyota tranny project

Hi All:

The snow gods of South Dakota have been very kind. In a time when below
zero temps are not uncommon, the past two days have seen temps in the 50's!
I took advantage of the fine weather to begin the toyota tranny/alpine
engine project. So far, so good. The kit includes everything I'll need,
including bolts, clips, etc. The supplied kit uses a bell housing from a
Rapier, but everything matches perfectly with the Alpine engine. A
specially machined plate is heli-arced to the bell housing and that
provides the connection between the engine and the tranny. A new pressure
plate and disk were supplied, along with a new throw out bearing, bearing
carrier and clutch fork. So far the only challenge I have is to find a
clutch slave cylinder that will fit the bell housing.

As I said, the bell housing started life as part of a Rapier. The mounting
holes for the clutch slave cylinder are wider on this bell housing than
those on my Series V. Consequently, I need to find a clutch slave cylinder
that will match up to the bell housing mounting holes. The difference in
spacing between the Rapier mounts and those on my Series V are
approximately an inch. Can anyone tell me if a slave cylinder from an
earlier Alpine (Series II - early IV) might use this type slave cylinder?
 I'd appreciate any help.

The dinner bell has sounded - best not to irritate my bride by coming late
to dinner.

Happy New Year everyone - best wishes for good health and prosperity to
all!

from sunny South Dakota,

Paul #14649 - soon to have a 5 speed tranny!
