Thanks, I appreciate that. I was just thinking of a way to get a better
guess as to squeezing them. I thought I could tape a ball of aluminum foil
to one side of each hinge, then close the door. The crushed ball will show
the current gap between the hinges. Then, I can look at the gaps and the
space between the lock and striker to get an idea of how much I want to
move the door back. Then when I remove the hinges, I can at least have a
shot at figuring out what the hinge looks like when the door is closed and
how much I need to compress it to get it where I need it. Well, it's a
step up from squeezing blind.
