Yikes, that's a lot of e-mails to catch up on after a week off. It was a
great week off, but the car is still not done.
I did swap the springs from the S3 suspension into the SV suspension on the
S3 car. I am now completely satisfied. The swap dropped the front 1
5/16". For what it's worth, the springs measured exactly as indicated in
the books. I now firmly believe that I should have cut my springs years
ago. The car just looks "right". My wife even commented when she saw it
that she liked it better than my old one as "more stylish, with nicer
lines" - her exact unsolicited words.
Now here is my latest cry for HELP!!!!! One of my doors seems to be
positioned too far back and I can't get the door to close because the latch
seems to be too tight. Here's what I know so far. The paint shop removed
the original hinges and some broke while they were pushing out the pins to
repair them (don't ask). So, the door now has hinges from an unknown door.
Rick tells me that he has never seen two hinges match and figured that they
were set at the factory. The gap is even up and down the front and back -
except very narrow in the back, and about 3/16 in the front. Rick had
first suggested that the car may be bending down, causing the doors to
pinch. But, the other door works fine, and the gaps are perfectly even.
Rick suggested pulling off the hinges and squeezing them in a vice. Any
one been there, done that? Shouldn't I heat it first? Anyone have any
thoughts that S3 latches or hinges were different (this car came without
the latches - and I don't have the hinges anymore).
Thanks for any thoughts.
Jay
