As an alternative, SS sent sheetmetal screws with the lenses, with the
"cutting tip." I just sat with them in my hands one night watching TV. I
just turned a little, then backed up and turned back and forth a little.
Then turned down a tiny bit more, and back again, repeating til it was
done. Worked perfectly. Not a single crack.
Additionally, I have the screw in from the outside lenses. I found that
the thread size on the screws that Rick sent smoothly rotated through from
the back and into the lenses. It seemed it did not harm the threads at
all. I figure there is a possibility I might have nicked the threads a
little. But, the meat of the thread is still there for some restoration
perfectionist to put them back from the outside.
