brake light problem

Here's an odd one - at least to me anyway. When I put my car back
together, I bled the brakes, but didn't do anything special for the brake
light switch. I found that my brake lights were not working. I assumed
that there was air in the brake light switch part of the "+" where it hooks
up. I found later that if I hit the brakes really hard a few times, it
still wouldn't work. But, if I pulled on the hand brake and did it, they
started working - and they continued to work thereafter. So, I decided
somehow I must have popped out that bubble. I then decided I should bleed
the brakes to get that bubble out. After I bled them, the brake lights
weren't working again! Then the same routine got them working again. I'm
afraid to bleed them brakes again. I did get a new switch in the meantime,
but have not installed it.

I guess I ought to loosen the switch, bleed the air out from there (being
careful to drip fluid on my paint since I like that streaked look), bleed
the brakes again and see what happens.
