Ian, I think what happened is sometimes the owners get an old formula
that is made for using the old organic dyes and then has that mixed
using the newer synthetic dyes. The result is the purplish-red that you
mentioned. Another example is the old British racing green formula mixed
with newer dyes will come out looking like leaf green. The moral of the
story is to actually match an original painted part to the new,
synthetic color chip data base and all our Alpine paints will have
traceability back to an original painted part.
