Hi all,
Took the radiator to the shop today to have it boiled out, rodded, and
a small hole fixed. I stopped to pick it up this afternoon , happy to
get same day service, and it was ready but the paint was still wet. When
I got it home I looked it over and it was obvious the tanks had not been
off.... same old oxidized white crusty stuff on the solder under the new
wet paint. So back to the shop and I catch the guy just as he is leaving
to go home. I figure that this needs to be handled in a diplomatic
manner and say "You did not really rod this thing did you." After some
little heated discussion, he offered my money back and said he would
stand on his twenty years of experience that it had been done. Then he
looked at it and said "Oh". We went into the shop and I watched him eat
crow while he did the job I had paid for. From now on when I have
radiator work done I will request that they not paint it so I can see if
anything was done. Do you suppose this is a common practice, my core is
not that old and the car was not over heating, so if he had got the
patch right and the paint had been dry I might not have ever noticed.
Just thought I would relate the experience. jim 66SV
