Painting Dash

As Brent has learned by now, the black face dash is correct for the SV.
Note, as indicated, a textured black vinyl should be covering the black
plastic dash. It could be that your vinyl has been pulled off and that is
why you didn't realize it is different from the early dashes.

As to paint, they sell a "vinyl" paint at the car shops, which is intended
to paint over faded vinyl. I actually accidentally had first hand
experience with some this weekend. I bought a spare tire hold down last
week for my Alpine (thanks again Tom). It needed painting with a gloss
black (at least the other one I have appears to be gloss). I have a crate
with cans of paint. I saw semi-gloss and a gloss, and grabbed the gloss.
What I did not notice was that it was not standard paint, but this "vinyl"
paint. Well, I did notice after it stuck funny. But, it did dry, and
looks really really good! In fact, it sort of looks like it's been covered
with a very thin layer of vinyl. Rather than pulling it off, I'm going to
leave it on and see how it lasts. If it starts to peel, and I have to do
something, so I'll do it then.
