I reckon 10W30 is prob a bit light for summer only use. Maybe a 20W40.

I've just found a big article on oil grading, as I was getting confused with
what to use in the gearbox, and monograde SAE 30 oil is hard to find. The
gear grading system is different between engine and gbox oils, in that
numbers above SAE 60
are designed solely for gear use. An SAE 30 engine oil has approx the same
viscosity as a SAE 85W gear oil. The gear oil does not contain all the extra
additives that are in the modern engine oil, but contains additives that
stop it breaking down under high pressure, and also reduces foaming. The
article is at www.wearcheck.ca/FYI/FYI000_207.htm if anyone else is also
confused.
