You risk damaging your battery with prolonged use at over 14 volts, or
so I have heard.

Do what I did, Rob. Put in a single wire, 110amp GM alternator. It's
a fairly easy install, requiring a little modification to the stock GM
alternator bracket. It'll cure all your electrical woes by eliminating
a slew of components and you'll get loads of juice for lights and
stereos (and your lights won't dim when you run the blower!).
