Hi all,
Thanks for all the help with my carbs. (Zenith 36WIP3s)
Turns out to be string of small things that worked against me.
1. No ball bearing in the manifold drain pipe (easy fix).
2. Idle circuit way too lean. Needed the adjustment almost all the way
to rich (which I didn't get to, but the carb guy did). Fixed by drilling
out the idle jets to the next size up.
3. Throttle opening too small. Muggins here not knowing what he was
doing. Thanks to those that emailed, and to Chris McGovern's book and
the chapter on race tuning.
4. Sticking throttle. Due to front carb accelerator cam *just* touching
the extra nut I put under the float bowl bolt that holds the accelerator
linkage bracket. (All six of my dud carbs had this thread stripped, so I
thought it would be good insurance).
Extra thanks to Jarrid for heaps of advice over the last three years of
carb woes, Armand for sending some hard to find bits, and Tom W. for
finding me a pair of carbs in good nick.
That 15 year-old has two Playboys now!
Cheers,
Paul.
