I've used Permatex " High Tack " in both spray and can types. This is designed
for gasket sealing and will hold the gasket in place too. You must clean &
remove all traces of old gaskets and oils, then apply & let dry. This has worked
for me for 20+ years on the alpine, including the infamous side ( lifter )
cover......
