Ron,
Electrical contacts will always make some arcing when they close or
open. I'm not sure how to improve the longevity of them, but if your
experiencing some conduction problems through the contacts, try to add a
coating of solder to the contacts. In that way, they are coated with
tin-lead and won't oxidize as fast.
