The raising of the hood has more to do with the higher pressure under the
hood that the lower pressure at the windshield. we all know the airflow of
the brick was not the greatest, yes there is high pressure under the hood
that needs to be released. the rear of the hood is not the place to do this,
under the car is. what needs to be done is to create a low pressure area
under the car that the air from under the hood can flow into. this can be
easily done by adding a front air dam, made of a somewhat flexible material,
to block the flow of air under the car. this will create a low pressure area
for the underhood air to flow. side skirts to stop 'spillage' would held
direct the air. these 'dams' could be place under the car out of the
sightline and would not have an adverse effect on the appearance. I worked
with CART (the Indy car sanctioning body) for a couple of years and you
would be surprised how much the underside of a car affects air flow. I
remember when F1 first raced on the streets of Detroit the city had to weld
the manholes down because the undertrays created so much downforce (read low
pressure area) that they sucked the 100# manhole covers off. Now we don't
have to create that much of a vacuum, just enough to get the hot air out.

at high speeds the hood wanted to come open...and it would lift up a few
inches (blocking my view at 60 or 80 mph...)
