To update everyone on the thrust bearing problem and solution, I was able to
put my bottom end together this morning. When I ordered the bearing it was
"assumed" that the oversized bearing would be THICKER not WIDER. (All the
engines that I have built in the past NEVER had oversized thrust bearings).
My machinest--one of the best in town--was able to help me out of the bind
by machining the thrust surfaces to be within tolerances.

He also reinforced the technique of properly centering the thrust bearing
and main cap by wacking each end of the crank with a brass hammer before
torquing it (leave the thrust for last). This prevents your thrust
bearing/cap from being cocked at all.

Lesson to be learned: ALWAYS ask your supplier about all the oversizing
options. Many times they are so knowlegable they may assume things like
this are common knowlege. Thanks for all the replies-it was a GREAT help!

Thanks
Nathan
