Two possibilites come to mind.  

  Check to see that the two conections on the back of the Ammeter are good and 
tight.  On
my new 67.5 the connections were both overheated and the springiness of the 
connectors
was gone.

  There is a 3 pin connector between the starter and the wiring harness, down 
near
the starter.  If the connection is flakey there it can possibly cause the same 
symptoms.
