I am in the process of replacing the timing gears and timing chain on my
67.5 1600 and found in the Clymer manual a statement that there is
supposed to be an O-ring between the teeth on the crank gear. I've
replaced 2 timing sets over the years before this one and none of them had
this O-ring. IS there supposed to be one? The factory parts manual doesn't
show one. The manual indicated that its purpose was as a tentioner (doubt
it) and as a means of quieting the chain (possibly). Anyone know for fure?

Another thing I found on this chain job. When I removed the timing cover I
found that the tensioner was wanting to be replaced. In fact, it had
already started taking itself off for me! Bot bolts were loose and the
tensioner was sitting crooked. There are worn sopts on the inside of the
cover where the bolts have been rubbing. Good thing I bought a
replacement!

Peace,
Pat
