Thanks to everyone who responded to my earlier post.
Here is a summary:
the grille and the 2000 badges are the only body
differences.

1600 push rod R16 motor 96hp mated with a 4 speed
tranny (often touted as more reliable drive train with
much more availability of parts)

2000 OHC U20 motor 135 hp with 5 speed tranny, and
tranny mounts are different

The shifter plate in the cab is different it has the
5-speed pattern plate on it. Shifter location is about
.75" closer to the front of the car

maybe alternator

radiator, driveshaft diff ratios 1600-3.90 2000-3.70

The tach (0-8000 vs 0-6000) and speedo (0-140/0-160 vs
0-120) are different.

I believe the exhaust pipe is larger. 1-3/4 vs 1-1/2?
I don't think the 1600 had the resonator and flare
tip, either, but I'm not sure

seats 2000-headrests 1600-none (i think)

starter shorter on 2000.

Does this pretty much cover it? On the ones that were
stated with uncertainty what is the consensus of the
list?

I raised the original question because when I went to
get my 1600 and the 4 speed rebuilt the mechanic said
for just a little more he could build me a 2000 and
put in one of the later type 5 speeds. I just got the
car back last Thursday. I love the difference in power
and the 5th gear is great on the freeway. That was me
with a huge smile all the way to MidOhio last weekend!

I would appreciate your thoughts would it be best to
leave it badged as a 1600 or change the badges and
grille?

Last question does any one have a 5 speed shifter
plate they would be willing to part with?
Again thanks for all your help!
Will
