I wouldn't put them quite that far up on the fender. I would mount them
about where the wheel well ends.
My MGB has them above the wheel well and with the mirrors I'm using it's OK
but when I restore the car I will move them closer as it's very difficult to
back up using the mirrors and there are some blind spots that I have to get
used to. It's a learning experience to use mirrors that are not on the doors
and in heavy traffic it's a bit unnerving.
I suggest you temporarily tape them down and see where you like them before
drilling any holes.
