If the operative word is beater, then the '93 MR2 is the only choice.  
No such thing as a $30K beater unless you're Jay Leno.  I usually think 
of a beater as a 15 year-old Cavalier, or the Ultimate Beater, a 4WD 
AMC Eagle wagon, preferably former US Gov't issue ;^)
