That's a good point Mark.
It's worth noting that the spindle axles on the Roadster front suspension,
while not a notorious failure point, are prone to cracking over time.  These
ought to be checked during a front suspension overhaul or after any heavy
hit.  
If this center link that started this whole thread is only slightly bent,
well mine has been that way for years...

This is a stout piece of metal, and unless the front end of the car was
damaged in an accident, the bend was undoubtedly the result of a wheel
impact.  That kind of jarring impact could have damaged other parts in the
steering train.  I'd recommend inspecting ball joints, side rods and ends,
idler, and the steering box as well.
