Since you said multi gauge, I would guess late model. I believe that this is
really a volt meter calibrated to read amps based on battery terminal voltage.
Jumpering it would be a bad idea as it would take battery volt to chassis
ground or close to it.
Suggest disconnect the input wire and insulate it from touching anything by
taping off the terminal. Leaving it connected should not pose a problem either
as a voltage meter generally looks like an open circuit (very low current
draw).
What is problem you are trying to troubleshoot.
