To further narrow this down, TR4A, CTC69150L was built on May 10, 1966.

Bill Piggott gives CTC64148 as being built on 3/1/66; and CTC75172 on
2/1/67. He further states that CT (US spec) cars were in the same
sequence,
so I would guess your friend's car was made around July of 1966.
