Sunday morning about 50 RMVR members gathered to search the area
surrounding the theft site. The car was found about a mile outside of
that search area.
This is what I gathered from that meeting.
There was no alarm present nor a lojack system. The truck had been
rendered inoperable by electronic means. The thieves made no attempt to
drive the vehicle away. They broke out the drivers side window and
disabled the steering lock and flat towed the entire thing away. An
eyewitness saw the whole rig being towed. A policeman (not sure from what
jurisdiction) saw the rig being towed and since it was being towed in a
legal fashion, lights in operation, etc. and was in process of answering
a call, did not look into the operation. The location and direction of
the rig when spotted was used to define the search area.

The owner managed to, in a most impressive fashion, get the basics of the
story and a picture of the car on the local news. Not one, but at least 3
and possibly all 5. By virtue of the out of state license plates that
were easy to spot a bus rider saw a truck and trailer with Wyoming tags
and called police, having seen the report on the news.

It looks as though the only thing missing were the tools. The thieves
might have been looking for a contractor's rig full of construction tools
and only got an unmarketable sportscar. Took the tools so as not to go
away empty handed. They left the entire rig in the open, in a high
traffic location.
