I looks just like a flashlight, except it has a shielded portion on the
top and a small bulb inside and a magnifyer in the veiwing portion. You
hold the plug up into the shielded portion , snap on the light and peer at
the plug through the magnifier and then say" well look at that". Generally
for sale at a NAPA store for about $20. Really good ones have a high
intensity bulb and the cheap ones are okay though. The magnifier is about a
3 power, 6 or 10 is better. Get that and a cheap skate sand blaster and
take clean fresh plugs to the race and learn about all that stuff. File the
electrodes after blasting to make the edges sharp with a cheap ignition file
from NAPA and you've in essence got a new plug.
