Was the roll bar/ roll cage number always the same as the logbook number?

If not, when did the roll bar/cage number come into existence?

Where there any classes exempt from having a roll bar/cage ?

Roger that.

The logbook number on my Spitfire is 15-017. It was in the first batch of
cars logbooked by Kansas Region, issued March 22, 1972.
