1. I will probably race a bit more

2. Entry fees are now typically up into the $400 range on an average. Used
to be there were a number of events that were ~$250 but costs have gone up
across the board for the tracks and sanctioning bodies as well so it's
natural they are reflected in the entry fees. There may be differences
between club environments that rely mostly on volunteers vs corporate
entities that try to operate at a profit.

3. There are a number of sanctioning bodies that have some corporate
sponsorship but without viewing their P&L it would be hard to determine
where the funds ended up and whether it impacted the entry fee.

Vintage racing is a great hobby but it does come at a cost. It's a decision
each person needs to make as to whether an event is right for them. There
are large scale events at famous tracks with many bells and whistles and
then lesser attended events more economical by club entities on some
occasions. Again, it's a decision for each individual to make based on
costs, seat time, safety of participants, location and politics with the
sanctioning body.

Subject: [Fot] Three Questions

Hello:

At the last race of our season (CSRG) earlier this month, I was talking with
several racer friends of mine about the current economic situation in the
U.S. and what affect it might have on vintage racing in the coming years.
With job losses mounting, consumer spending tightening up, etc, we
speculated that there might be a downturn in the number of people who could
afford to go racing. So, I'd like to ask three questions and get your
responses:

1. Will you race more, less or the same number of events in 2009?

2. What do you pay for entry fees with the various organizations you
race with?

3. How many of the race organizations you race with have corporate
sponsors to help offset the cost of racing, ie, keep entry fees lower?

Feel free to expound on your answers, more info is better than less.
Thanks.

Gary
