If you shim the pedestals, you change the angle of the contact on the valve 
from the rocker.  If you have roller rockers, it may not matter, but with 
the stock rockers , you will get wear.  I've seen it on other TR6's.
You can order shorter pushrods and they usually can be delivered pretty 
quickly.  Your cam shop should be able to help you with this.
