There's also a device I have used that is fairly inexpensive and does a
reasonable job. Adesso EZ Scan 1000. Scans both slides and 35mm roll film
both positive and negative. It puts the prints where you direct it, I did
the HD in jpeg format. The device is ~$59 and seemingly the best price was
at Amazon!.
I had a bunch of 40+ year old slides it had no problem with.
