I fitted the Conversion some years ago but the vehicle always left its mark
when turned off, but oil usage was negligible. Having removed the gearbox
last week, whilst it was away I decided to investigate further. I removed
the flywheel and engine backing plate. The area around the seal was
perfectly clean and dry, but there was oil leaking from the rear of the
camshaft. This (ex US) car never had a gasket between the block and plate
so when I rebuilt the engine I put silicone gasket maker in the area which
had evidently not worked. I made a new gasket out of 1.6mm (1/16 inch)
gasket paper, sealed with Permatex No3 sealant and the fix appears to have
worked.
